my guinea pig ace bite me, we were doing so well how do we recover from this?
I have only had Ace a few days but we were doing very well. He took cilantro from my hand and was coming right up ot the cage to get some. I had been working on getting him to stop running as soon as i put him down. But I guess i am confused on what to do to keep him from running away. He is the only piggy i have so do you think that getting him a lil buddy will help him be less afraid, would it be best if i got an older more handled guinea to teach him the ropes of lovin people or does it matter.
NO if you get another guinea pig they will bond to each other and you will simply be the person who feeds them.Please keep in mind that guinea pigs are prey animals so it is quite natural for them to run when you come up to the cage, it is pure instincts. Guinea pigs have poor eye sight so they will not recognize you by appearance, when you approach the cage do so slowly and talk softly to him.
There is hope though, i have had guinea pigs for 30 years and i have found a trick that never fails if you are willing to put forth the bit of time it takes for the first 2 weeks.You will need to give your guinea pig 2 hours of one on one time for this period of time doing the following.
Wrap it in a towel and lie it on your chest while watching TV, reading a book or listening to music, guinea pigs love music. Set your guinea pig in your lap while you are using the computer, my Miya loves the sound of the keyboard and purrs to it all the time.Carry it abut the house with you as you do your day.
With in two weeks your guinea pig will be bonded to you , you will have become its companion and it will not need another guinea pig, as it has you.

After two weeks you will not need to use the towel, however some guinea pigs will become attached to their towel and want to keep it as my Miya did so she was allowed to deep her towel along with the bed as she, as well as all guinea pigs, had potted trained hr self by using the towel so i can allow her to have free run of the bed with out worrying about a potty mess, she likes to sleep with me.
