Raid Your Piggy Bank for Some Smashing Fun
When I was first introduced to money pots, I was a little confused by the whole concept. Beautifully handmade, these pots are used to save your spare cash and are based upon a 2000 year old tradition of Italian pottery. However, part of the tradition of these pots is to save money in them until they are full, then to smash them to release the savings. This is the part which confused me - why would I want to invest in a pot, which I then have to smash? Surely it would be best to put that money to good use, rather than to spend it on something to keep my money in?
I soon realised that breaking the pot is actually part of the fun. Since you cannot get to the cash in your pot until you have broken it, you are less tempted to dip into your savings for those moments of frivolous spending. Additionally, the whole excitement of filling up the pot, and the cathartic release of smashing it actually provides great encouragement to save more cash.
I can thoroughly recommend the money pot, not only as a means to save money, but also as a gorgeous ornament for the home.
