How do I get my Guinea Pigs to like being picked up?

I have two guinea pigs and neither of which like ebing held or picked up. One of my pigs squeals loudly when I pick him up which is like a warning cry to my other one. My other piggy bites kicks and scratches when we pick him up. The first one(snowball) will let us pet him in the cage put my other one(mojo) wont let us even touch him in the cage. WHAT DO I DO!

If you'd researched just a little more, you'd see that guinea pigs don't like to be picked up or in any way moved from they're current comfortable spot. Of course, I don't mean take they don't like being held. Once they're on your lap and you start scratching behind their ears, they stop squeaking.

Judging from your info, you haven't had them for very long. You can't expect them to trust you already, right? You are a threat in their eyes right now. You can't just think "Well, I bought you and now you're mine so let me carry you" and expect them to understand.

Try opening the cage and just sitting next to it. This is a process that takes patience and time, not brashness. Try tempting them with a treat a day (don't overfeed on treats, one is plenty). Stick your hand inside the cage and let them explore it and sniff around. Once they know that you're not a threat anymore, they'll struggle less when being handled.

Bottom line, no one likes to be forcefully handled, especially by someone fifty times their size. Give them time; they're going to be around for 5-7 years so you don't have to rush any time soon.
